Wampum

Wampum played a big part in the lives of Native Americans.  Wampum is a shell that comes from the ocean.  Natives used wampum and strings to make belts.  These belts were used for special purposes and for special meanings.  Examples are:

• for Treaties
• for a Condolence
• for Messages
• for Invitations
• for Indentification

All of these wampum tell a story and have a special purpose.  They have been recited for years and is done even today.
